American Legion Baseball is committed to a participatory philosophy ensuring that ALL young men are able to be involved in an extra curricular activity that promotes teamwork and sportsmanship. Integrity, fairness and respect are the principles of sportsmanship. With good sportsmanship, the spirit of competition thrives through honest rivalry, courteous relations and graceful acceptance of the results.  Sportsmanship is one of the most important values taught through this program

It also focuses on healthy attitudes toward competition, sportsmanship, leadership, teamwork, and lifetime recreational interests.

Coaches

A coach who is a good sport believes and teaches that athletic competition is an ethical pursuit, one that builds character and shapes lifetime attitudes. Coaches should be devoted to helping athletes develop a positive self-image and encourage teamwork. They should also promote respect for the rules, umpires, and opposing teams.  Discouraging all types if inappropriate behavior, while prohibiting taunting and other forms of intimidation.
